In 1963, President John F. Kennedy was shot to death while riding in a motorcade in Dallas. Texas Gov. John B. Connally, in the same car as the president, was seriously wounded. A suspect, Lee Harvey Oswald, was captured. And Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson was sworn in as the 36th president of the United States.
